Memphis, Mid-South Sunsets

I have been shooting a lot of sunsets lately. It seems that the clouds, atmosphere, and weather have been conducive to some spectacular sky shows. These are from the Mississippi River Front and the new and improved Shelby Farms.

This was a long the river at the park in Harbor Town

Here is another location same evening

This time not directly at the sun, looking off to the left

Away from the direction of the sun the colors are a little more subtle

This is the brand new visitor's center at Shelby Farms

Spectacular sunset over the new enlarged lake at Shelby Farms Park

The more subtle skies away from direct sunlight, again Shelby Farms Park enlarged lake

Power walk anyone?

It's a family affair!

A Recent Trip to Nashville: Part One Murfreesboro

One of my favorite photography destinations is Nashville. We just got a little dog six months ago, a Yorkie named Zeke. He travels with us now and we could not stay at our usual spot, so I found a pet friendly Motel in Murfreesboro. What a lovely little town. I am so glad that Zeke forced us to stay there. It is quaint and photogenic, and nearby is the Stones River Civil War Battle Grounds and Cemetery. My hat is off to Murfreesboro TN... great hospitality.

This Building is iconic by Murfreesboro Standards. It had just rained this early evening visit and the rain and sky made the city that much more peaceful

Around the town square. Murfreesboro has a wonderful town square.

Artistic fire hydrants... they have several of these colorful gems around the square

On around the square and another hydrant

Small and quaint but yes, they do have one tower

Stones River Battlefield is a couple of miles out of Murfreesboro and it is a great historical site to visit.

You can almost feel the presence of the troops

While the canons don't thunder, they stand at the ready.

If you are staying in the Nashville area, why not stay in picturesque Murfreesboro?

The RedBall Project

The RedBall Project came to Memphis in May. It is an art project that features the creation of Kurt Perschke. He created a large inflatable Red Ball that travels from city to city and is wedged in various landmarks around the city. It was in Memphis for 10 days and I was able to see it all ten and shoot photos on 8 of the 10 days. The RedBall Project added a lot of color and photo opportunities to our great photogenic city. I am going to share some of the shots I was able to get.

Click on the images to enlarge them.

Day 1
It all began at the Brooks Museum of Art in Overton Park.

 More at the Brooks Museum

Everyone is getting shots of themselves at the Redball

Day two was at the Daisy Theater on Beale St.

I missed Saturday which was day three. It was at the Beale St. Landing and the streets were cut off, I was alone and did not have time to walk down.

Sunday it was just off Main Street

Monday it was moved to the UT Student Alumni Center on Madison.

Tuesday it was lodged in Barboro Alley, got some great shots here

Holding up the world

The Memphis College of Art at Overton Park was a great location and the sky was wonderful that afternoon.

Next we Move to the Hattiloo Theater in Overton Square

Our new little Yorkie Pup Zeke got His own RedBall at the Hattiloo Theater, and he was excited!

The RedBall Project ended at the Stax Soul Music Museum. Here are some shots from there.

I hope you enjoyed the RedBall Project from my lens and Point of View!

An hour in Arlington TN

Just a little over twenty-five miles north-east of downtown Memphis is a quaint town square that has taken pride in its historical look. There is a section where they have preserved or rebuilt the town as it was 75 years ago. I love shooting old buildings, and I love all of the towns that have perserved town squares around the area, and there are quite a few.

Click on the images to enlarge them so that you can see the detail.

Low light shots from around Memphis

I recently acquired a couple of faster lenses for my Sony A3000. They were two sigma e-mounts, one was a 60mm f2.8 and the other was a 30mm f2.8. What they have enabled me to do is get some fairly good hand-held, low-noise shots. The camera functions very well up to 1600 ISO and is acceptable to 3200 ISO. These shots were taken within that range. They are shots from around the Memphis area at twilight or darker.

Click on the first image and then look through all the slides.
